The 24-hour road safety initiative will take place from 7am on Friday, October 19 to 7am on Saturday, October 20.
An Garda Siochana and the Road Safety Authority said the aim is to remind drivers of the dangers of speeding, increase compliance with speed limits and act as a deterrent. The penalty for speeding is three penalty points and an €80 euro fine if paid within 28 days. An interactive map of safety camera locations can be viewed here. There were 157 road deaths in 2017, the lowest on record, gardai said - but added that it "is still 157 road deaths too many". A statement read: "We can never be complacent about road safety.
